From
Long before Brown twice won Tony awards for the best score for new Broadway musicals (Parade and The Bridges of Madison County), he put together this revue of songs for an Off-Broadway run in the mid-1990s. The songs aren't connected in any way except for an underlying theme: each song is about a moment of decision; sometimes it's about a decision that has to be made; sometimes it's about a decision made in the past. Some songs are hysterically funny; some are poignant and touching. Some are driven with intense rhythms; some are lyrical. Brown's musical style draws on a number of genres including pop, jazz, Latin, gospel, R&B, rock, and folk. Opera Workshop will end the show with one of Brown's later songs, "Coming Together," a moving and uplifting anthem written in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
