Southeastern Opera/Music Theatre Workshop - The Mikado

Mar 17th - 18th , 2016 - 7:30pm

The plot of The Mikado, Gilbert and Sullivan's most popular comic opera, revolves around the tale of an ageing guardian (Ko-Ko) fending off suitors to his young ward (Yum-Yum) so that he can marry her himself. Ko-Ko, formerly a cheap tailor, is now Lord High Executioner to the Mikado (Emperor of Japan). He must behead someone within a month and sees his chance when a wandering minstrel (Nanki-Poo) threatens to commit suicide because he cannot marry Yum-Yum. What Ko-Ko doesn't know is that Nanki-Poo is on the run from his old and ugly fiancee, and is the son and heir to the Mikado.
