“The Wrath of the King: Henry VIII, Cardinal Wolsey, and the Surrey Justices in Star Chamber”
The “More-or-Less Annual Halloween Lecture” returns with the usual mix of scholarship, silliness, surprises, and sweets as the Head of History and Political Science discusses his research on a fierce local feud that spawned decades of corruption, disorder, and violence in Surrey and culminated in 1519 with Cardinal Wolsey’s carefully staged display of the young Henry VIII’s royal wrath in the court of Star Chamber. What does this have to do with Halloween? Oh, you are not going to believe it. And remember—costumes are encouraged! Candy tossing to follow.
